I have come home from one of the biggest projects in my life, so far. I shot the new record holder of being the smallest man in the world for Guinness World Records.
The biggest challenge wasn’t getting Junrey to pose or lighting him. It was keeping my composure when the press people were trying to get the best of me. I’ve never encountered a group so rude and inconsiderate and stubborn. It took much energy to restrain myself from fighting back.
I have to remind myself that the better part of the whole experience should overshadow the shitty part.
I got the job done and the client was very happy with my photographs. I had a great time. I got to a new place. I met a lot of good people. I forged a relationship with very talented and insightful people — Craig and Adam. And of course, the love of my life was there to witness it all.
Those are the bits I want to remember.
Amidst all the evil thoughts I’m trying to shove off my mind, I remember why I am a photographer.
I love my job best when I see my work framed and hung on my clients’ (who always end up to be my friends) walls; when they conjure feelings of happiness and nostalgia when they look at my photos.
That’s why I’m very excited to ship the Balawings a copy of their family photo. At the end of the day, after all the hullabaloo from the media, they are a family. And a remembrance of that is what I want to share with them.
